Are you ready, guys?! -- The kanji characters for the word ikki-tousen, a Japanese term for a great fighter, literally mean “one against a thousand,” which is a perfect description for the fresh and exciting Sengoku Period action series Sengoku Basara, where players mow down an onslaught of enemies. Combining ridiculously cool characterization of Sengoku warlords and a playability beginners can get used to right away, it’s no surprise that the series has become a big success.
The latest game in the series, Sengoku Basara 4, will finally be released in January of 2014 for the PS3. The Capcom booth at TGS featured a large, castle-themed Sengoku Basara 4 area where visitors could jump right in and play on one of the many demo consoles. Players were limited to 15 minutes, but even beginners were able to get the most out of their demo plays with the help of “Nadeshiko Companions.”
Forty warlords will appear in the game, a record for the series, including the addition of some popular warlords, such as Shima Sakon and Shibata Katsuie. The game also has a lot of showy new features, including the “Comrade in Arms” system where ally warlords join you in your fight, powerful special moves called “Giga Basara” (Caricature Basara) skills performed with another character, and something called “Iki Limit” that allows players to go on a killing spree by making enemies move in slow motion.
Visitors to the demo station could also receive an original Sengoku Basara bag as a novelty item. Don’t forget to also take a photo in front of the statue of Date Masamune mounted on a horse that towers over the Sengoku Basara 4 area. Sengoku Basara 4 will be released on Jan. 23, 2014 at a price of 6,990 yen (around 70 USD).
