It has been announced that a second season and movie adaptation of the TV anime Psycho-Pass, which began broadcasting in October 2012 during the anime programming block noitaminA, are underway. At the same time this was announced, a new visual was released that shows an unknown person’s hand stretching out to pick up a Dominator on the ground. Whose hand this is and what the significance of this is are still unknown, leading this to be a very thought-provoking illustration.
Information on these two projects is still widely unknown other than that they are both progressing smoothly. However, new information is planned to be released in succession on the official site, so check back soon for more details.
Psycho-Pass takes place in a futuristic world in which it is possible to quantify a person’s personality and psychology in order to control the general population. This sci-fi thriller follows the police attached to the Public Safety Bureau's Criminal Investigation Division as they fight crime.
Staff on the anime include director Katsuyuki Motohiro who has worked on the huge-hit TV drama and movie series Bayside Shakedown, main scenario writer Gen Urobuchi of Puella Magi Madoka Magica fame, and original character designer Akira Amano who wrote the popular manga Katekyo Hitman Reborn. The anime was produced by Production I.G ( Ghost in the Shell ), the appointment of which picked up attention from anime fans due to the studio’s top-class staff and propelled the anime into popularity soon after it was first broadcast.
The anime also has a stellar voice cast that includes Tomokazu Seki as main character Shinya Kōgami, Kana Hanazawa as Akane Tsunemori, Takahiro Sakurai as Shōgo Makishima (a criminal with deep ties to Kōgami), and other highly popular, highly talented seiyū.
The work has also expanded favorably into other media, including a manga version starring Akane Tsunemori as the main character that is serialized on Jump Square’s official site and a novel version that is updated regularly on noitaminA’s official site. A novel version called Psycho-Pass: Legend that will tell spin-off stories of each character is also underway. Whether it’s these projects, the new season of the anime, or the movie adaptation, fans have plenty to look forward to.
