Poké Bank, Poké Transporter, and Nostalgic Surprise Announced During Latest Pokémon Direct

On Sept. 4 via Nintendo Direct’s Pokémon Direct, Nintendo president Satoru Iwata made an announcement of new information for fans in regard to Pokémon X and Pokémon Y, which are releasing soon on Oct. 12. Many trainers have tuned in for each of Nintendo Direct’s Pokémon Directs streams due to the revealing of new gameplay for Pokémon X and Pokémon Y that is quite different from all past generations. The following announcements were made during the latest Pokémon Direct.

Begin with a starter Pokémon plus Bulbasaur, Charmander, or Squirtle.

Immediately after beginning the game, trainers have always chosen one of three starter Pokémon as the first gameplay event.

In the first generation of the games, Pokémon Red and Pokémon Blue, players were able to choose from Bulbasaur, Charmander, and Squirtle. Seventeen years later, the great popularity of these Pokémon have yet to waver. For the first time ever, trainers will be able to choose Chespin, Fenekkin, or Froakie as well as Bulbasaur, Charmander, or Squirtle for a total of two Pokémon to start their adventure with. With Pokémon X and Pokémon Y having a great amount of new gameplay, there’s no mistake that it will still appeal to the nostalgia of veteran trainers as well as for past players purchasing it for their children.

Mega Blastoise, Mega Charizard, and Mega Venusaur are confirmed.

New information related to Mega Evolution was also revealed: Mega Blastoise, Mega Charizard, and Mega Venusaur were announced and gameplay of each was shown. As Mega Evolutions, these Pokémon also appear slightly different than usual. Being that these are classic Pokémon with a great history, this has caused quite a reaction.

The Mega Ring was also discussed. Together with a Pokémon holding a Mega Stone, Mega Evolution can be invoked through a deep connection. Mega Evolution seems to be only temporary, and all the details have yet to be revealed. However, it’s certain to increase the level of excitement of the game’s battles to a point that hasn’t been seen in past generations.

Also announced were the Pokémon cloud storage service Poké Bank and Poké Transporter, which will be used for importing precious past Pokémon into Pokémon X and Pokémon Y.
