Latte art created by Kohei Matsuno — also known as Mattsun — continues to amaze many people on the Internet. He receives various design requests from his fans, and on the basis of each request, he creates a 3D foam image on top of a cup of coffee. Cute creatures emerging from a cup lose shape within approximately five minutes, but he not only makes coffee drinking more enjoyable but also turns it into a special artistic experience. Originally, latte art was just a part of service for those who ordered coffee. Mr. Matsuno continues his trial-and-error efforts to develop this art due to his strong sense of hospitality. Even now, he’s thinking hard about his next move in 3D latte art, so he can continue to surprise and delight his customers.
“I prepare a larger amount of foam than for regular latte art. I pour in the foam without hesitation and draw the picture quickly. Because we have barely five minutes to enjoy the clear shape of subjects, this is a battle against time. Actually, simple designs look prettier and are more popular than elaborate ones. So I try to keep my art as simple as I can.”
