MiXUS Unites Vocaloid Fans Through Karaoke, Live Performances, and Cosplay!

On May 5, MiXUS, a large-scale Vocaloid event, was held at Club Axxcis Shibuya.

Vocaloid is voice synthesis software developed by Yamaha. The first virtual singer sound source, Hatsune Miku, was created with the software. Now, as a virtual idol, Hatsune Miku has gained worldwide popularity and Miku concerts planned by local fans are held throughout the world.

MiXUS was a crossover event of various realms influenced by Vocaloid. Although sound performances by Vocaloid producers, DJs, and VJs were the main attraction, cosplayers held cosplay parties and net idols also perform.

Also, it was a day event, so a great diversity of fans, from experienced clubbers to high schools visiting a club for the first time, were gathered in the same space rocking out to the amazing digital tunes.

The second, third, and fourth floors were reserved for the event. Each floor had a special feature, and fans went back and forth between floors while enjoying the various performances.

On the second floor stage was Sasakure.UK and others active artists who perfomed their popular songs to the excitement of the crowd. Also, Hatsune Miku crashed the cosplay party that was underway and virtually performed by being projected onto a black mesh screen. Fans could enjoy the performances that exceeded the frame of conventional club events.

The third floor housed a Joysound karaoke machine and a fan participation karaoke event was held. Also, a new way of enjoying karaoke was presented when Joysound held a demonstration of their latest product, a guitar effect system. It displays the music chords and can also transform the guitars sounds. TOM Special Creator Soh Yoshioka gave a great performance and while mingling as part of a live ad-lib session, conveyed charm to the participants.

Vocaloid DJs who frequently perform gathered on the fourth floor. Fans were blown away by the the live performances of musicians at the heart of Vocaloid trends. This floor was especially filled with Vocaloid enthusiasts, and all the fans getting excited together was an impressive sight.

There are many Vocaloid illustrations and videos that can be enjoyed online. However, MiXUS offered a way for fans to feel united and experience performances live. The event was a precious, enjoyable experience that could only be savored offline.

Lastly, we’d like to introduce the TOM Special Creators who participated in MiXUS. We certainly hope you visit their portfolio pages and enjoy their works!
