Overseas fans of Japan’s pop culture often have to worry whether something may be only in Japanese. Hiragana, katakana, and kanji all require a long time and a lot of patience to memorize. Fans often desire to enjoy otaku content in Japanese but, it’s a big hurdle to jump over. However, there is something great that exists! We’d like to introduce “moe sheet music.”
“Anison Band Score Gakuinshita High School Band” published by Doremi Music contains 10 anime song scores for the guitar, bass, drums, and keyboard. For example, “Connect,” the opening theme song for Puella Magi Madoka Magica and “Orange,” the ending theme song for Toradora are included. Especially catchy songs from the latest anime are also included. Otaku are sure to have heard these songs at least once.
The whole world uses the same rules for music scores. Therefore, even if you can’t understand Japanese, you can still be fully absorbed in the world of anime with these music scores. Going a step further, you could even challenge yourself to sing along with the original Japanese lyrics provided. The lyrics are written in hiragana, so there is no need to look up how to pronounce the kanji.
The book includes more than just music scores, it also includes a full manga that features the girls on the cover who are striving to form a band. The girls also give kind advice for performing each song. While practicing your favorite songs many times over, before you know it, you may not only become good at performing, but also good at Japanese!
