It is said that no one has seen the real Lance of Longinus. Several Holy lances exist throughout the world be no one knows which is the real one. On top of this, many don’t even believe that the story surrounding the lance is real. However, Japan now has a Lance of Longinus.
Okazaki, a city not far from Nagoya, is the hometown of the first Shogun of the Edo era, Tokugawa Ieyasu. Recently, an exhibit named “Evangelion and Japanese Swords” was held at Okazaki’s Museum of Samurai History. The exhibit was first held in Bizen-Osafune, Okayama, the capital of Japanese swords, before it began touring Japan.
At the exhibit was an impressive replica of the Lance of Longinus from Evangelion. This alluring piece was crafted by Japanese sword master Sadanao Mikami and his successor Shoichi Hashimoto. The replica is 332 cm in length and weighs 22.2 kg.
