Moto Hagio’s First Historical Drama “Queen Margot” Releases

Moto Hagio is a popular manga artist whose consecutive past works Poe no Ichizoku, Iguana Girl, and They Were Eleven are responsible for the popularity of shojo manga today. Hagio is referred to by many as the founder of shojo manga. Now, she is challenging herself in a new area: historical dramas. Her newest work Queen Margot began being serialized in the shojo manga magazine You in September 2012. On Jan. 25, the first volume of the manga was released.

Queen Margot is an ambitious work that tackles love and human nature in a way never before seen in Hagio’s work, and it has quickly picked up popularity. The story centers on Margot’s male conquests and scandalous love affairs and the criticisms she endured from many people for such behavior. Hagio divulges, “I was interested in this side of her.”

In commemoration of the first volume going on sale, a special page has opened on You’s official site. Definitely check it out!
