Behind the Scenes of Cyborgnene’s Cool and Sexy World! [1/3]

Decorating TokyoOtakuMode’s homepage is a plethora of cosplay from the extremely cool to the eye-catching; and let’s not forget sexy. Whatever the style, cosplayers are constantly sharing their work for everyone to enjoy. Whether its of popular characters or original concepts, cosplayers work hard to produce fully represented worlds within their works that are always sharp and eye-catching.

However, few people have probably seen the backstage world of cosplay, which made us wonder, “What goes on behind the scenes of a cosplay photoshoot?” The TOM editorial team recently attended a cosplay photoshoot to answer this very question. We learned a great deal about cosplay photoshoots, from the excited atmosphere of everyone participating, to the small problems that happen backstage, and even more.

Helping us out at the photoshoot was the well-known cosplayer and TOM creator, Cyborgnene. Because many types of creators, including cosplayers, illustrators, and sculpture artists, have a policy to not show anyone their work until it is completed, it’s natural that very few people get to see a behind the scenes look at the unfinished product. However, Cyborgnene gladly allowed us backstage to see the hidden side of cosplay, to which we were very grateful!

The theme for the photoshoot was “bikes and girls”, which was a first for Cyborgnene. However, she had a support team of eight people to help her. Each member of the team executed their role flawlessly, and even though the photoshoot was done on the fly without any rehearsal, it ended in complete success. Here is a list of all of the staff members who made the photoshoot a success:

- Edi: Bike Mechanic & Lift Operation
- Ma-Yan: Security Service
- Fujimoto: Timekeeper
- Akari: MC (In fact, she's really a professional voice actress!)
- Meejee: Sound Service
- Nase: Reception & Cloak Attendant
- Mami Asai: Supporting Model
- Pai: Organizing & Supervising

Moving right along, roughly thirty people showed up to the photoshoot to take pictures of the lovely Cyborgnene. From the owners of the motorcycles used in the photoshoot who were helping out at the event, to those participating and taking pictures, the scorching enthusiasm was enough to blow off the chilly winter breeze. The breeze on the rooftop that day was especially strong though. In any case, getting to see a cosplayer’s alluring figure from the cameraman’s over-the-shoulder viewpoint is something that you don’t get to normally see. Join us as we take a look!

The photographers branched off into several groups and changed positions frequently while the gathered around the cosplayer trying to obtain a picture to their liking.

Communication is essential at a solo photoshoot. Nene’s composure was amazing as she responded to pose requests one by one.

One pose involved using the lift. This scene was tough to find the right vantage point, but it was interesting.
