Hikaru no Go Blu-Ray Box Sets to Be Released in Succession Starting in January

Master the Divine Move!

The TV anime that gave rise to the popularity of the game Go throughout Japan, Hikaru no Go, is coming to Blu-Ray! Starting on Jan. 25, 2013, a series of five box sets will begin to be released. A Blu-Ray box set containing all 75 episodes is also being planned. Two of the illustrations from the box jackets have also been released.

Hikaru no Go was first serialized in the weekly manga magazine Shonen Jump from 1998 to 2003. The manga was written by Yumi Hotta and illustrated by Takeshi Obata. The anime adaptation, which was broadcast on TV Tokyo, ran from 2001 to 2003 and spanned 75 episodes. The anime was originally released on DVD from 2002 to 2004, spanning 25 volumes. In 2009, the complete series was released as a limited edition DVD box set.

The Blu-Ray box sets will be released in quick succession from January to May 2013. Each box set is expected to contain 11-19 episodes from the series.

To commemorate the series’ transition to Blu-Ray, all 75 episodes will be aired online on six websites starting on Dec. 14, 2012. Episodes will be available for free on GyaO!; a limited number of free episodes will be available on Bandai Channel, Anitele Theater, and Anime.Mobi; and episodes will only be available to monthly subscribers on dMarket Anime Store and dMarket Video Store powered by BeeTV. However, depending on the region you live in, you may not be able to view the episodes.
