Sword Art Online Alternative: Gun Gale Online

First up is Studio 3Hz’s anime adaptation of Sword Art Online Alternative: Gun Gale Online. This spinoff from the wildly popular Sword Art Online series follows LLENN, a newcomer to the VRMMORPG Gun Gale Online. Despite being quite tall in the real world, her virtual persona is tiny, cutesy, and very capable, making for an amusing contrast! Fans will be able to see her in action from Apr. 8.

Persona 5 the Animation

Next up on the list is the highly anticipated anime adaptation of hit game Persona 5, broadcasting from Apr. 8! This series is being produced by A-1 Pictures and should follow the game pretty closely. Plus, whether you’ve played Persona 5 or not, it's sure to make for an intense viewing experience.

Piano no Mori

Moving towards more emotional, dramatic material, the anime adaptation of Piano no Mori by Gainax’s Fukushima branch is also airing on Apr. 8! This series follows Kai, a young boy escapes his life in the red light district every night by playing a mysterious piano left in the forest.

Captain Tsubasa

Next up is Captain Tsubasa, yet another entry in the iconic soccer series! Airing from Apr. 2, this particular new anime is to honor the 2018 FIFA World Cup and as always, follows the titular Tsubasa, a young and energetic soccer player.

Golden Kamuy

Geno Studio is bringing the long-awaited, first ever anime adaptation of Golden Kamuy to TV screens on Apr. 9. This adventure follows a survivor of the Russo-Japanese War, Sugimoto Saichi, and his quest to find hidden gold in the bitter cold of Hokkaido with the help of Ainu girl Asirpa.

Mahou Shoujo Site

The magical girl genre takes a dark twist in Magical Girl Site. The anime adaptation of this chilling series by production doA is premiering on Apr. 6 and follows Aya, a young girl being forced to endure terrible bullying at school until one day she gets an out in the form of a gun-shaped magical wand. Virtual YouTuber Kizuna AI will also be making her debut as an anime voice actress in Magical Girl Site.

Omae wa Mada Gunma wo Shiranai

Next on the list is Asahi Production’s adaptation of the comedy Omae wa Mada Gunma wo Shiranai. This series first came out in October 2013, and it’s centered around a regular boy named Nori who has just moved to Japan's Gunma prefecture. What should’ve been a normal school life turns crazy when he gets caught up in a rivalry with Tochigi and Ibaraki prefectures!

Mahou Shoujo Ore

When you imagine “magical girl idols”, what comes to mind is probably not Mahou Shoujo Ore! An anime by Pierrot Plus airing on Apr. 2, it stars a young girl who wants to become an idol but is then forced into signing a magical girl contract to save her crush. Her magical girl transformation is really something else, as seen in the trailer above!

Tada-kun wa Koi wo Shinai

Love will (maybe? maybe not?) bloom in Tada-kun wa Koi wo Shinai, a new romantic comedy anime premiering on Apr. 5. Doga Kobo is animating this series, which follows the sweet connection between a high school boy and a transfer student from Luxembourg.

There’ll be 50 episodes by LIDENFILMS to enjoy, beginning Apr. 8.

Kakuriyo no Yadomeshi

Aoi is no ordinary university student, possessing the ability to see "ayakashi" (a type of supernatural Japanese monsters), just like her late grandfather. As she feeds them one day, a demon suddenly appears and insists Aoi marry him to pay off a debt that her grandfather left behind! Instead, she chooses to work and pay him off in this series by Gonzo, which starts broadcasts on Apr. 2.

Comic Girls

Aspiring professional manga artists come together in Nexus’ comedy and slice of life series Comic Girls! This one’s airing on Apr. 5 and is guaranteed to be full to the brim of lighthearted cuteness.
