Lotte’s popular “Gume Kare Project” (Gum Boyfriend Project) of personified gum has returned. The new project “Gum Kare! Shinsengumi” was announced on Feb. 4.
Continuing to provide voice work to this novel project of gum personifications is a wonderful cast that includes Kazuya Nakai, Tomokazu Sugita, and Yuki Kaji. It has also been revealed that joining the cast this time is Jun Fukuyama who is voicing new character Glamour.
The “Gum Kare Project” was first announced in November 2014. It has drawn attention for its personifications of Lotte’s gum brands into hunky guys. Web content was also released with the start of the project. When the main character, a female high school student, suddenly becomes a tooth, a school romance story unfolds with hunky guys who are personified gum.
However, a different story has been developed for “Gum Kare! Shinsengumi.” It’s a continuation of the previous school story, but this time the stage changes to the Bakumatsu period. The main character who’s a tooth finds herself flung through time to the Bakumatsu period, and before she knows it, she’s enjoying life as a tooth inside the mouth of Kondo Isami. With an unexpected surprise right off the bat, how it continues will likely be on the mind of many people.
The cast features a lineup of popular actors including Kazuya Nakai as Black Harada, Tomokazu Sugita as Kishiri Saito, Yuki Kaji as Akuo Okita, Kenichi Suzumura as Gurin Yamanami, Hiro Shimono as Fuitsu Todo, and Hiroshi Kamiya as Kuru Hijikata. And playing new character Glamour is Jun Fukuyama. Glamour is a foreign character and the personification of the female-oriented gum brand Glamatic.
In addition to the project’s web content, a radio show on Nippon Cultural Broadcasting has been confirmed. The show will be broadcast on Feb. 10. Performing on the show will be Hiroshi Kamiya, Kenichi Suzumura, and Hiro Shimono, and there will be comments from Jun Fukuyama who voices new character Glamour. It’s a sure bet that the newest announcements will be made during the show, so don’t miss it.
