Terra Formars will finally be released Japan-wide on April 29, 2016. Based on the huge hit manga, the buzzworthy movie has an all-star cast and is directed by Takashi Miike.
A teaser to the movie was finally posted on Nov. 6. Available to watch online, the teaser is packed full of highlights including performances by the cast in character and a grand stage set at foreign locations. Above all, what we’d like to point out is the final scene. It’s one that will give you a shock when you see it. With half a year until the movie releases, this trailer is a must see.
Terra Formars by author Yu Sasuga and illustrator Kenichi Tachibana is currently serialized in Shueisha’s Weekly Young Jump. The strength of its popularity is evident in the fact that the series has over 13 million copies in print. The story takes place in the 26th century, and since the series is epic in scale with Mars, spaceships, and more, it was expected that a live-action movie would be quite difficult. Credited with making the live-action adaptation a reality is hitmaker Takashi Miike of Crows Zero 2 and Lesson of the Evil fame.
We can’t take our eyes off the amazing cast of actors and actresses either. The cast came together by means of replacing most of the characters with Japanese performers. In the released trailer you can see the movie’s surprising visuals and the cast’s performances.
The movie begins in Japan in the year 2599. In a city with rising income inequality due to population explosion, the police are after Shokichi Komachi (HIdeaki Ito) and Nanao Akita (Emi Takei). We then get a shot of Mars covered with terraforming algae. Without knowing anything, 15 Japanese people are dropped off on Mars. There they battle against the Terraformars. The movie will be finished in February 2016 and more news will be revealed little by little leading up to the release on April 29.
