Attack on Titan is the hugely popular manga by Hajime Isayama that has over 40 million copies in print and which depicts the life or death struggle of humanity against man-eating Titans. In addition to a smash-hit TV anime that broadcast in 2013, the first part of the live-action movie adaptation was released on Aug. 1, 2015, and it’s bounding through Japan’s movie industry as one of the year’s biggest hits. The movie is even gaining great attention from overseas, and there are plans to distribute it in 83 countries. Even in the Philippines, where it has already been released, it is garnering high acclaim. It will even be released in the U.S. this month as well.
Now, a trailer to the much-anticipated second movie, Attack on Titan: End of the World, has been posted. In includes a summary of the first movie and gives a peek at some of the movie’s white-knuckle battle scenes that use well the ominous appearances and powerful movements of the Titans and soldiers speeding through the air on their 3D Maneuver Gear. The footage is backed by the theme song “SOS” which Sekai no Owari created specifically for the movie. The 1-minute, 30-second trailer is jam-packed with appeal, like the epic scale of Titan v Titan battles.
The live-action movies are directed by Shinji Higuchi who grew active in the anime and tokusatsu genres beginning with Japan Sinks, and they have gained attention for being jointly written by Yusuke Watanabe of Gantz fame whose scenario boldly dramatizes the original manga and film critic Tomohiro Machiyama.
Under the supervision of series creator Hajime Isayama, the second movie will follow the original manga while providing unique developments, but we’ll have to wait until it is released in theaters on Sept. 19 to find out what these are and how the story will be concluded.
