The Pullip fashion doll collaborative series with Sailor Moon, the new second season of which has started on Niconico, was only lacking Sailor Mars and Sailor Jupiter of the Inner Sailor Guardians. Now these two have finally appeared! This time, we’ll introduce the two together. Get a good look at the differing beauty and bravery possessed by the Pretty Guardian of fire and passion and of thunder and courage. As always, all photographs have been taken by TOM.
Rei Hino (Raye in the original English dub) is Sailor Mars, famous for her catchphrase, “In the name of Mars, I will chastise you!” She’s a fearless young woman ruled by Mars who unleashes fire attacks. She often has harsh words for cry-baby Sailor Moon. However, this is her own brand of kindness that comes from how much she cares for Sailor Moon.
Makoto Kino (Lita in the original English dub), on the other hand, is a tall young woman who wields the power of thunder and physical strength as Sailor Jupiter, with the catchphrase, “I’ll make you feel so much regret, it’ll leave you numb!” Though she demonstrates a strength that rivals any man, she also has a mild temper and often restores the peace when things get heated between her friends.
The cool beauty of Mars’ face has been masterfully reproduced, with her long black hair cast with a purple sheen and her black eyeliner above her eyes. Her red lips show Mars’ characteristic adult-like quality. An area worth pointing out is the pair of shining star-shaped red earrings on her ears. Made with a transparent material, these pieces are certain to bring an unexpected smile to the face of fans.
The signature bright red color of Mars’ costume and high heels makes her gorgeous presence even stronger.
You can see the quality present in this reproduction in the color of Jupiter’s trademark brown hair and the gentle wave of her ponytail. The strands of hair coming down past her ears and her hair tie are both much larger than in the series, making for a lovely design in Pullip’s unique style.
The eye makeup brings out the beauty of her green eyes and it alone conveys Jupiter’s dignified personality. The rose earrings gracing her ears are also worth noting.
The high level of quality present in the texture of the leather sailor outfit and skirt, the pink ribbon on her chest and back and the construction of her ankle boots are in keeping with this collaborative series and demonstrate an attention to detail towards Sailor Moon on the part of the designer.
In this shot, you can almost hear Mars shout, “Get ready!”
Fans will be very familiar with these poses from their transformation scenes. With over 30 joints found in Pullip dolls and eye gimmicks that let you change their line of sight, it’s possible to reproduce a variety of poses from the anime.
A new look is created by adding a wink to her pose. Seek out more greatness from these Sailor Guardians by putting them into different poses.
Of all of the Sailor Guardians, Mars and Jupiter both possess differing adult-like qualities. Mars puts her life on the line to protect Sailor Moon, even while getting angry and annoyed at her childishness, and Jupiter watches over her friends with a maternal kindness. These shots allow you to get your fill of their contrasting beauty as shown through Pullip dolls.
Pre-orders are being accepted for both Pullip Sailor Mars and Pullip Sailor Jupiter on the Tokyo Otaku Mode Premium Shop. Pullip are produced in limited quantities, so they may sell out as soon as they are released. This is a great chance for those who have the other Inner Sailor Guardians released to gather them all, so be sure to take a look!
