Since the release of the manga in 2009, a huge movement has been stirred up in the anime, game, and music scenes by Hajime Isayama’s Attack on Titan series. The series has a gripping story about a relentless onslaught of Titans that threaten the existence of humanity. The series is now developing into a live-action film directed by Shinji Higuchi to be released in 2015. The manga also continues to advance, with over 30 million copies of the individual volumes in print.

An especially impressive aspect of the series is the intense visuals of the Titans. Among them is the 60-meter-class Colossal Titan, a life-size version of which will rampage through the streets of Kawasaki. The “au Smart Pass Presents Attack on Titan Projection Mapping” event will take place on April 10, 12, and 13 at the Muza Kawasaki Lazona Kawasaki Plaza in Kawasaki Prefecture. Presented will be not just Titans, but also Eren, Mikasa, and other well-known characters blasting through the skies using their 3D Maneuver Gear. It will be a surprising event.

In charge of the projection mapping is Naked Inc. and Ryōtarō Muramatsu who worked on the 3D “Tokyo Hikari Vision” at Tokyo Station and the Tokyo National Museum Karakuri special exhibit “Kyoto - Scenes from in and Around the City and the Beauty of Wall Paintings.” Because he has an established reputation for his surprising visuals, this event as well is being highly anticipated.

The event will be held 10 times over three days. Special viewing seats will also be set up on the days of the event. These special viewing seats will be offered to those who are au Smart Pass members. Sign ups for these seats began being accepted on Pia’s special “Up!!!” site on March 1.

Regarding this project, author Hajime Isayama commented the following: “I can’t wait to see life-size Titans with my own eyes. It seems likely that I will be influenced by this project, and this will show in my manga!”

A poster visual of the event has also been released. It shows the Colossal Titan towering over the buildings of downtown Kawasaki. We wonder if this experience will be a realistic one? It seems likely that this projection mapping event will cause a huge uproar.
