Summary

Announced in March 2017, Princess Principal is an original anime set to premiere on July 9. Directed by Tachibana Masaki ( Barakamon, .hack//Quantum ) and written by Okouchi Ichiro ( Code Geass: Lelouch of the Rebellion and Kabaneri of the Iron Fortress ), it is produced by Actas ( Girls und Panzer, Mazinkaiser SKL ) and Studio 3Hz ( Celestial Method, Dimension W ) with Tri-Slash responsible for 3D animation. The series will run for 12 episodes and feature “The Other Side of the Wall” by Void_Chords feat. MARU as its opening and “A Page of My Story” sung by the five main characters as its ending theme.
A major highlight of Princess Principal will be its music by Kajiura Yuki, who is known for composing the soundtracks of numerous popular series including Tsubasa: Reservoir Chronicle, Sword Art Online, and Puella Magi Madoka Magica, her music projects FictionJunction and Kalafina, as well as her unique combination of classical music, pop, and unearthly vocals.
Taking place in 19th century London, a city in the fictitious kingdom of Albion divided into East and West by a large wall running through the middle, this spy action series follows five girls who attend the prestigious school Queen’s Mayfair as their cover, on their missions.
The series also has a smartphone game in development titled, Princess Principal: Game of Mission.

Main Characters

Angie

Angie is a genius spy with a knack for artistry who often perplexes those around her with her far-fetched lies. She is generally not very friendly and doesn’t talk a lot. Angie is voiced by Imamura Ayaka (Munemune from Scorching Ping Pong Girls and Fuma Hina Aria the Scarlet Ammo AA ).

Princess

The gentle but strong hearted Princess of the Albion Kingdom, she is widely loved by her people. The Princess is voiced by Sekine Akira, who played Fujiwara Miyabi in Aikatsu!.

Dorothy

Voiced by Taichi Yo (Yokoyama Anzu from Prison School and Pepperoni from Girls und Panzer), Dorothy is Angie’s partner as well as the leader of the team. She is a first rate driver and shooter and also excels at using her charms to her advantage even though she is very pure.

Beatrice

An aristocrat who is always by the Princess’ side, Beatrice has nothing but love and respect for the Princess since she saved her life when she was little. She is voiced by Kageyama Akari, also known for her roles as Ebina Nana in Himouto! Umaru-chan and Chidorigafuchi Aine from Hybrid × Heart Magias Academy Ataraxia.

Chise

A Japanese exchange student, who, despite her small stature, is an excellent swordfighter. She is prone to odd behavior as she is not entirely familiar with Western culture. Chise is voiced by Furuki Nozomi (Yamamura Miwa from Barakamon and Chess Belle from Seraph of the End).

Additional Characters

L

The leader of Control, a spy organization sent by the Republic to infiltrate the Kingdom of Albion. He is a man of few words and always keeps a level head. He is voiced by Sugo Takayuki (Wanyudo from Hell Girl and Andragoras III from The Heroic Legend of Arslan ).

7 (Seven)

An analyst who sorts and reports information. She doesn’t let her feelings get the better of her and keeps her calm even in the most unexpected situations. 7 is voiced by Sawashiro Miyuki, a popular seiyuu known for her roles as Mine Fujiko from the Lupin III series, Aruru from Utawarerumono, and Nanami Haruka from Uta no Prince-sama.

Colonel

Sent to Control as a coordinating officer, the Colonel thinks of spies as inferior compared to the military as they work in the background as opposed to the military. He is voiced by Yamazaki Takumi (Miki from Initial D and Aries Mu from Saint Seiya ).

Duke Normandy

A nobleman and the Lord of Internal Affairs, Duke Normandy holds considerable influence over police organizations and is one of the few people who can advise the Queen. He is voiced by Hashi Takaya (Mendosa from Garo and Duke Inuarashi from One Piece ).

Gazelle

The secretary to Duke Normandy, she always stays true to the mission at hand and doesn’t lose her calm. She occasionally departs for missions on her own initiative. She is voiced by Iida Yuko (Azumi from Girls und Panzer der Film and Yokosugi Tae from Keijo!!!!!!!! ).
