Background

Based on the Kodansha Manga Award-winning manga series written and illustrated by Kotono Kato, the anime adaptation of Altair: A Record of Battles ( Shokoku no Altair ) was first announced by Aniplex in December 2016 under the name “Project Altair.” The anime is being directed by Kazuhiro Furuhashi with production by MAPPA and is scheduled to begin broadcasting on July 7, 2017 during MBS TV’s Animeism programming block and will run for two cours.

Story

Mahmut is a young member of the Divan of the Türkiye Stratocracy on the great continent of Rumeliana with the political and military title of Pasha, being the youngest ever to achieve the title. After an assassination of a politician, the threat of war with the militaristic Balt-Rhein Empire looms over Türkiye, and as the country’s youngest politician, Mahmut is determined to keep the peace. So he sets out on a journey around the continent to better understand the Empire’s growing influence over it and to protect his homeland by forging alliances with other nations to stand against the ever-expanding Empire. But will it be enough to quell the threat of war?

Characters

Tuğril "Golden Eagle" Mahmut Pasha (CV: Ayumu Murase):

The youngest member of the Divan to ever achieve the title of Pasha, Mahmut hails from the Tuğril tribe, the village of which was destroyed 12 years earlier by the Empire. He passes the army entrance exam at the age of 12 after the death of his mother, determined for continued peace in his country. Honest by nature and having high integrity, Mahmut earns respect from those around him and during his travels comes to understand the complicated politics between nations. While he knows that fighting may be unavoidable at times, he strives to minimize bloodshed as much as possible through his cleverness, high intellect, and strategic proficiency. He also has a tamed golden eagle named Iskender which he is able to command to deadly effect.

Cyrus γιός Apollodorus (CV: KENN):

A Phoenician spy for Süleyman, Cyrus becomes a traveling companion of Mahmut’s after the fall of his home in an effort to stop the Empire’s expansion. He is a capable fighter and hopes to one day retake his homeland.

Abiriga (CV: Junichi Suwabe):

Abiriga was sold into slavery by his parents at the age of 13 but managed to escape and was taken in by Brega, the Captain General of the Venedik fleet and the leader of the Brega company. He is assigned to be Mahmut’s companion to spy on the Türkiye Stratocracy’s activities, but soon comes to greatly respect him and proves to be an unmatched ally.
