Anime Attack on Titan Unaired Special “Ilse’s Journal” to Broadcast on 28 Channels Throughout Japan

Developments are progressing for the anime Attack on Titan, the TV broadcast to which ran for half a year in 2013, that will match up with the release of the first theatrical movie in the series, Attack on Titan the Movie: Part 1 - Crimson Bow and Arrow, on Nov. 22 throughout Japan. Big events will be held not just at theaters, but on TV as well. One such event is the broadcast of the unaired special, “Ilse’s Journal.” Several networks will also be rebroadcasting the series beginning in October.

“Ilse’s Journal” depicts prior events that unfolded for Captain Levi of the Survey Corps, and the story begins when he and Erwin come across an old journal while on reconnaissance outside the walls. Staff includes Tetsuro Araki as director, Yasuko Kobayashi as series composer, and Kyoji Asano as character designer. Fans can also likely tell that the special was produced by Wit Studio, the same studio that produced the TV anime.

“Ilse’s Journal” was originally included as a bonus DVD in the limited edition of Volume 12 of the manga, but this is the first time it will be broadcast on TV. The broadcast will be on Sept. 28 on 28 MBS and TBS channels throughout Japan at a time that many people will find convenient: 17:00. Attention on the series is likely to rise. An encore of Episode 1 only will also be broadcast on MBS on Sept. 27 at 25:54.

There will also be a large-scale rebroadcast of the series. This will begin on Oct. 1 on Tokyo MX, Oct. 7 on AT-X, and Oct. 10 on the Disney channel, D-life. Because D-life is a subscription-based satellite channel, those all over will be able to enjoy it.

Also picking up attention is the appearance of the Colossal Titan at Shinjuku Wald 9 in Tokyo as a form of promotion for the forthcoming movie. In the lobby of Shinjuku Wald 9 is an inflated Colossal Titan head that many customers are enjoying as a commemorative photo spot. The Colossal Titan will be in place until Sept. 15. Round 2 of advance ticket sales will also begin on Sept. 13, so it would be a good time for those who head to Shinjuku Wald 9 to get theirs to check out the Colossal Titan while they’re there.
