Touken Ranbu -Online- is a simulation game produced by DMM Games featuring Nitroplus original characters and scenarios. Players create and raise teams of “Touken Danshi” - classic Japanese swords transformed into handsome young men, to fight on the historical battlefields. The game has proved enormously popular among female fans and led to a boom in sword-related culture across Japan. Young women have flocked to museums, art galleries, and swordsmiths all over Japan as this unprecedented movement takes hold.
The last stage play of the franchise, Touken Ranbu Kyoden Moyuru Honnouji, was performed in May of last year, selling out continuously and attracting over 40,000 viewers for the live broadcast of its final performance, despite taking place on a weeknight. The Blu-ray of the performance made it to the top of the Oricon Weekly Chart (Sept. 19) and once again sold out at consecutive performances when restaged last December. Following this enormous success, the next edition of the live show was announced at the final performance.
