Curtains Rise on Kyoto International Manga Anime Fair 2016; Tickets on Sale Now!

At long last, the largest manga and anime trade fair, Kyoto International Manga Anime Fair 2016 (Kyomaf) is set to open its doors in Kyoto! It will be held on Sept. 17 and 18 at Miyako Messe (Kyoto Kangyokan). This year marks the event’s fifth anniversary, and it has even grown 119% since last year with more publishers, anime companies, and educational institutions appearing than ever, and 50 display works planned (as of Sept. 14).

It’s not just the scale that’s increased this year, though, as more content than ever is also being prepared! This includes a gallery dedicated to the fifth anniversary of Hozuki’s Coolheadedness, cosplay booths, an Ojarumaru stamp rally and workshop, and fun playground equipment, meaning that there are plenty of family-oriented activities, as well.
More than 350 items will be available for limited-time purchase, pre-order, and general sale, designed as a part of collaborations between popular manga and anime with Kyoto’s own businesses with the aid of Animate, the largest anime specialty shop in Japan. Funtom Cafe, the wildly popular cafe from Harajuku and Osaka, will also be appearing at Kyomaf in the form of the Black Butler Yuki Chaya. In addition to collaborative burgers, Kyoto-style udon, Japanese-style parfaits, and other items you won’t get to enjoy anywhere else, there will also be Kyoto-exclusive original goods on sale, also designed in collaboration with Kyoto businesses.

Kyoto is especially popular as a tourist spot during Silver Week, and if you happen to be in the area, you should definitely visit Kyomaf.
