Applications Open for Anime Tamago 2017!

The Young Animator Training Project was launched in 2010 with the goal of training and supporting young animators. This project was started by the Japanese Animation Creators Association (JAniCA) who ran it until April 2014 when it was taken over by the Association of Japanese Animations (AJA). At first it was known by the nickname Project A before changing to Anime Mirai (or “Anime Future”) in 2012. Then, beginning in 2016, it became known as Anime Tamago, or “Anime Egg”.

Using funds from Japan’s Agency for Cultural Affairs, this project distributes money to studios to train young animators on the job for a year. Animation being outsourced overseas is thought to reduce chances for new animators to find training opportunities within Japan, so this program tries to create those opportunities.

The emphasis on training and unique talent have allowed for some incredible shorts to be produced through this project, like Trigger’s Little Witch Academia (2014), Tezuka Production’s Kumi to Tulip (2015), and Signal.MD’s Colorful Ninja Iromaki (2016). To get a better idea of the sorts of shorts that come from this, check out this promotional video from Anime Tamago 2016!

In preparation for its 7th year, the Young Animator Training Project is now taking applications from production teams and young animators.
