The popular manga Pandora in the Crimson Shell: Ghost Urn authored by Masamune Shirow and illustrated by Koji Rikudo is getting a TV anime adaptation. Broadcasts will begin on Jan. 8, 2016 on Tokyo MX and other networks. The anime has already been released in theaters in Japan beginning Dec. 5 for a 2-week limited screening run, and a TV anime will now follow this up.
Continuing their work on the series, Studio Gokumi will be in charge of animation production on the TV anime. Directing the anime is Munenori Nawa of LocoDol and Nogizaka Haruka no Himitsu fame, Takuya Tani is the character designer and chief animation director, and Hiroki Matsumoto is the art director.
Pandora in the Crimson Shell: Ghost Urn began serialization in Newtype Ace in 2012, and is currently serialized online on Kadokawa Nico Nico Ace. The series’ author, Masamune Shirow, is well known as the creator of Appleseed and Ghost in the Shell. Even Pandora is filled with Shirow’s distinctive cyberpunk style. On the other hand, it’s a futuristic buddy action story with cute, eye-catching female characters too. The series takes place in an age where cyborgs and autonomous robots have begun to appear in society. Sixteen-year-old girl Nanakorobi Nene is a cyborg with an entirely mechanical body whose story begins as she sets out for a man-made resort island called Cenancle. However, the island is an unimaginable place where terrorists and WMDs are commonplace.
The cast includes Sanae Fuku as main character Nanakorobi Nene and Manami Numakura as the beautiful android girl Clarion. Co-starring together with these two are Atsuko Tanaka as female scientist Uzal Delilah, Junpei Morita, Satsumi Matsuda, Rie Murakawa, Marie Miyake, Tetsu Inada, Junichi Suwabe, and Marie Naganawa.
The theme songs have also been announced. The opening theme is “Hopeness” by ZAQ, who wrote and composed the song. ZAQ is an anisong artist who creates unique musical worlds that cut through just about every genre. She debuted with the opening theme song “Sparkling Daydream” from Love, Chunibyo & Other Delusions and her current hit is “Katararezu Tomo” from Concrete Revolutio The anime’s ending song, “LoSe±CoNtRoL,” will be sung in character by Sanae and Manami as heroine Nanakorobi and android Clarion. ZAQ also handled lyrics and composition for this song too. Be sure to take a thorough listen to each one.
