Pac-Man, the retro arcade game from Namco (now Bandai Namco Games), celebrates its 35th anniversary this year and various commemorative goods have been lined up for release in celebration. In the previous article we looked at the first series of items on offer including a solid gold plate, but this time we’re going to check out the second series - “Pac-Man x Outdoor Products.”
“Pac-Man x Outdoor Products” is a collaboration between Pac-Man and the popular outdoor-related items manufacturer, Outdoor Products. There are four items on offer including a backpack, mini Boston bag, cross body backpack, and a smartphone pouch. The bags are available in two different designs: a maze pattern just like the Pac-Man game screen; and a monochrome pattern featuring Pac-Man, Ghosts, and fruits. Even though it’s a retro game, these designs feel fresh and new, and they’re easy to use too as they’re made to the highest standards by the well known manufacturer Outdoor Products.
So, let’s take a look at each of the items in detail.
■ Backpack
On the outside there’s a zippered pocket, and on the inside there’s an inner pocket for your cell phone. Also, on the maze patterned bag, there’s a hidden water-repellent “rain cover” which you can pull out if it starts to rain and protect the whole of the backpack. When you’re combating the rain with the rain cover in place, you can also enjoy a rainy-day-only design of Pac-Man and the escaping Ghosts!
The monochrome pattern has a genuine leather “pick holder” motif and an eye-catching design of Pac-Man trying to eat the dots.
■ Mini Boston Bag
If you attach the removable shoulder strap you can also wear the bag across the body, so it has a two-way function. On the inside, the bag has an attached inner pocket for smaller items, and as it’s a compact, simple design it’s sure to appeal to a wide range of ages.
■ Cross Body Backpack
The cross body backpack has three inner pockets and one on the outside. The back part of the backpack has a breathable mesh layer and you can attach smaller items like accessories or keychains to either side. It’s on the smaller side, but the cross body backpack is a functional, elegant one-shoulder bag.
■ Smartphone Pouch
The smartphone pouch has a casual design of Pac-Man characters and fruit and is suitable for various sizes of smartphones. The back has both a belt and a carabiner clip so it’s a convenient way to carry your smartphone around.
