Huge “Terraformars” Advertisements Take Over Shinjuku and Shibuya in Collaboration with Live-Action Movie

The 15th volume of Terraformars, a manga currently being serialized in Weekly Young Jump (Shueisha), releases on Nov. 19. To commemorate such an occasion, it was revealed that a special project would take place from Nov. 16 in collaboration with the live-action movie, namely, the appearance of changing visuals of the original illustrations and the live-action cast in Shinjuku and Shibuya. It will undoubtedly draw the attention of people walking the streets.

The highlight of these posters to be featured is their use of lenticular printing, which means the visuals change depending on the angle they’re observed from. In this case, you can either see an original manga illustration or a member of the live-action cast. The illustrations for this special project were drawn by Kenichi Tachibana, the illustrator of the original manga. You can compare the awesome cast gathered for the movie and their illustration counterpart that perfectly recreates even their posing. Check the galant figures of Hideaki Ito, Emi Takei, Tomohisa Yamashita, Takayuki Yamada, and Shun Oguri and the characters they play on these posters!

The visuals will remain posted from the afternoon of Nov. 16 to Nov. 22, and they will be displayed at Shinjuku Station Metro Promenade and the walls of the passageways of the Toyoko Line, Fukutoshin Line, Denentoshi Line, and Hanzomon Line at Shibuya Station. In addition, small booklets containing the first chapter will be distributed at Shinjuku to give a taste of the manga.

Terraformars is a sci-fi action manga with more than 14 million copies printed in total. Taking place on future Mars, the manga gathered popularity with its story of a grand battle unfolding between humans endowed with unique abilities and human-sized mutant cockroaches.

The live-action adaptation is set to release on April 29, 2016. Sitting in the director’s seat is the accomplished Takashi Miike, who has worked on countless live-action adaptations of manga including the Crows Zero series. Protagonist Shokichi Komachi is portrayed by Hideaki Ito. It was also recently revealed that a second season of the TV anime titled Terraformars: Revenge would broadcast from April 2016. It seems next spring will see a lot of new developments.
