New Initial D the Movie Legend 3: Half Awake, Half Asleep will be released in Japan on Feb. 6, 2016. The movie is the conclusion of the New Initial D the Movie trilogy that began in 2014 and will give a new spin to the beginning of the original manga’s story. It will also include plenty of the latest CG technology. Now, a teaser and new cuts from the movie have been revealed. It’s an all-out sprint toward the series’ finale.
The manga Initial D was serialized in Kodansha’s Weekly Young Magazine from 1995 to 2013. Forty eight volumes have been published to date, and the series boasts 48 million copies in print. New Initial D the Movie Legend 3: Half Awake, Half Asleep was produced in celebration of the 35th anniversary of Young Magazine. It will expand on the white-knuckle battles between main character Takumi Fujiwara and rival Ryosuke Takahashi. The intense battles between the Hachi-Roku and FC will be recreated dynamically in 3DCG, giving them a realistic feel.
Moreover, the released teaser features battle scenes drawn by series creator Shuichi Shigeno, a first for the trilogy. With its manga and 3DCG racing scenes, the teaser is one no fan will want to miss. It will begin being screened in Japanese theaters on Oct. 31.
The previous two movies in the trilogy, Legend 1: Awakening and Legend 2: Racer, were released in August 2014 and May 2015, respectively.
Fujiwara, who previously battled Takeshi Nakazato and Shingo Shoji, will finally take on Takahashi in the finale. The film version of the race between Takahashi aka “Akagi’s White Comet” in his FC3S and Fujiwara in his Hachi-Roku using the latest CG will surely gain attention from fans. Reprising their roles from previous movies in the series are Mamoru Miyano as Fujiwara, Daisuke Ono as Ryosuke Takahashi, Yuichi Nakamura as Keisuke Takahashi, and Maaya Uchida as Natsuki Mogi.
