Shin Gekijoban Initial D Legend 3 -Yumeutsutsu- (New Initial D the Movie Legend 3: Half Awake, Half Asleep), the finale to the movie trilogy, will be released throughout Japan on Feb. 6, 2016. Ahead of this, there will be special booth for the movie at the “D1 Grand Prix Series Rd.6 & Ex.” event taking place on Oct. 24 and 25. A wrapped Hachi-Roku will be on display at the booth, and attendees will be able to sit in the driver’s seat.
The D1 Grand Prix is a race series in which drivers’ skills at spinning their tires and drifting are put to the test. With its dynamic action as drivers navigate hairpin turns with roaring engines, the series has gained popularity with many fans. The New Initial D the Movie Legend 3: Half Awake, Half Asleep booth will be set up at the special Odaiba NOP Area course which serves as the venue for the finale of the series, the “D1 Grand Prix Series Rd.6 & Ex.” Bringing excitement to the event will be a specially wrapped Hachi-Roku on display.
There will also be a demonstration of a Kyosho Mini-Z RC car modeled on the car from Initial D and even a place to try it out yourself. It’ll be a chance to enjoy the thrill of drifting just like in the series. A special New Initial D the Movie video will also be screened. Both the movie and the race are not to be missed.
Initial D is based on a car racing manga by Shuichi Shigeno that was serialized in Weekly Young Magazine (Kodansha) from 1995–2013. A TV anime was produced in 1998 which brought even more popularity to the series. The first movie in the New Initial D the Movie trilogy was released in 2014. The trilogy begins at the start of the manga, and a portion of the cast are new faces. It is a joint effort between Sanzigen, a studio acclaimed for its 3DCG, and Liden Films of The Heroic Legend of Arslan fame.
