A TV anime adaptation has been greenlit for the fantasy novel Hai to Gensou no Grimgar published by Overlap Bunko. A Niconico Live talk show and book signing event celebrating the release of the newest volume was held at AiiA Theater in Akihabara, Tokyo on Oct. 16, and author Ao Jyumonji was invited as a guest. It was there that the anime adaptation was announced. The TV anime is slated to premiere in January 2016, and a portion of the staff has been revealed as well. The first promotional video has also been posted to the official site.
Hai to Gensou no Grimgar is a light novel series by Ao Jyumonji, creator of the Bara no Maria series among others. Eiri Shirai handles illustrations for the novel, the sixth and newest volume to which will be released on Oct. 25.
The coming of age fantasy story follows main character Haruhiro who suddenly finds himself lost in a world called Grimgar and joins up with others to survive in the harsh environment. Readers’ sympathy for Haruhiro’s troubles and the series’ realistic battles have put the series on the radar.
Directing the anime is Ryosuke Nakamura who also directed Moryo no Hako, Nerawareta Gakuen, and Aiura. Nakamura is also in charge of the script. Mieko Hosoi, who has worked together with director Nakamura on Nerawareta Gakuen and Aiura, is character designer. Director Nakamura and Hosoi have also worked together on a PV for the app game Fate/Grand Order. A-1 Pictures, the studio behind Sword Art Online and Anohana, is producing the animation.
