“Dagashi Kashi” to Premiere on TBS in January 2016; Main Staff Announced

Broadcast news has been revealed for the upcoming TV anime adaptation of Dagashi Kashi. The anime will begin broadcasting in January 2016 on TBS and BS-TBS. Along with this, sites related to the anime have opened, with the first being the anime’s official homepage. The main staff on the anime including the director and series composer have also been announced.

Directing Dagashi Kashi is Shigehito Takayanagi who also worked on the The World God Only Knows series and Tokyo ESP. Joining him are series composer Yasuko Kamo and writers Tatsuhiko Urahata and Michiko Yokote. Appointed as character designer is Kanetoshi Kamimoto of So, I Can’t Play H and Yosuga no Sora fame, and the sound director is Satoshi Motoyama whose many works to date include My Teen Romantic Comedy SNAFU. In charge of anime production is Feel, the studio behind Locodol and Suzakinishi the Animation.

The third tankobon volume of the original manga series was also released on Oct. 16. An official homepage for the anime, an official Twitter, and a special site for the manga have also all opened, and on them you can learn more about the latest news and details on the characters. Information on the cast will be announced at any time.

Dagashi Kashi is based on a manga series by Kotoyama currently serialized in Shogakukan’s Weekly Shonen Sunday. A popular comedy series that has over 650,000 copies in print, the story follows Kokonatsu Shikada, son of a small candy store owner, who meets candy enthusiast Hotaru Shidare and gets dragged into one tumultuous event after another. The story even shows candies everyone in Japan has probably eaten at least once, like Umaibo, Young Donuts, and Butamen. What kind of candy we’ll see in the anime is certainly a point to look forward to.
