This year’s Tokyo Game Show (TGS) was held over four days. This time we’re focusing on the hottest games of the event.
Star Ocean 5
The first new game in the series in six years. The previous encounter battle system has evolved for seamless battles. Battles and events now all take place in the same field, which reduces the stress of load times. The demo available at TGS consisted of the game’s opening event customized for TGS. Star Ocean 5 is slated to be released on Feb. 25, 2016 on the PlayStation 3 and PlayStation 4.

Street Fighter V
Throngs of fans crowded into the Street Fighter V demo area set up at the Capcom booth, which featured a huge, high-impact illustrated mural of banners of each character and Ryu unleashing a Hadouken. In the demo, Rainbow Mika, Rashid, Vega, Necalli, and Karin Kanzuki
were all available as playable characters. Attendees also had the chance to fight against members from the development team at Capcom including Street Fighter V producer Koichi Sugiyama and assistant producer Tomoaki Ayano. Street Fighter V will be released in spring 2016.

Capcom also had on show playable demos to the upcoming newest games in the Monster Hunter series: Monster Hunter Cross and Monster Hunter Stories. Monster Hunter Cross includes four different hunting styles total, one of them being the newly added “Bushido Style.” Gamers were able to undertake three quests in the demo: one beginner difficulty, one intermediate, and one advanced. Monster Hunter Cross will be released on Nov. 28, 2015 in Japan.

A trailer to this PS4 software was revealed on a huge screen. The trailer gave a look at the three games that comprise HD 2.8: Kingdom Hearts Dream Drop Distance HD, Kingdom Hearts X Back Cover, and Kingdom Hearts 2.0 Birth by Sleep - A Fragmentary Passage. Biohazard: Umbrella Corps
A “competitive shooter” with a focus on multiplayer, Biohazard: Umbrella Corps was created in celebration of 20 years of Biohazard (aka Resident Evil). The game’s basic controls draw from previous FPS games, and the gameplay flows at a high tempo. Head developer Matsue said regarding the game, “It’s more than ‘just aim and shoot’ - we’ve put in a ton of content to enjoy like playing while thinking about strategy, and savoring the achievement of victory.” He also shared during the demo at TGS which maps were best for setting up your own tactics. Biohazard: Umbrella Corps will be released on the PS4 and PC in early 2016.
Summer Lesson
This game gathered particular attention at this year’s TGS for being a title playable on the PlayStation VR, which is slated to be released in 2016. Its story is extremely simple: players experience what it’s like to be a tutor teaching English to high school girls. Similarly to other titles, gamers flooded the demo area. Summer Lesson will be released by Bandai Namco Games.

*Ikenie to Yuki no Setsuna* is a game developed from “Project Setsuna” by Square Enix subsidiary Tokyo RPG Factory. Developer Hashimoto also joined us during TGS in the Tokyo Otaku Mode Live Stream Hut where he played the game while explaining its content. According to Hashimoto, production on the game is currently “around 60-70%” complete. The game uses the ATB battle system familiar to fans of such series as Final Fantasy. Ikenie to Yuki no Setsuna will be released in early 2016. Pricing is currently undecided.
**Tokyo Otaku Mode also held a live stream of the game. The gameplay begins at about 20 minutes in.**
TGS 2015 was packed with tons of other showstopping demos as well including Naruto Shippuden: Ultimate Ninja Storm 4, God Eater Resurrection, and JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure: Eyes of Heaven just to name a few, each with a long line of fans anxiously waiting for their chance to play.
