“Ajin Part 1” to Open in Theatres on Nov. 27 with Flumpool’s “Yoru wa Nemureru kai?” as Main Theme

It has been decided that the animated film Ajin Part 1: Shodo (Ajin Part 1: Impulse) will open in theatres on Nov. 27, which will mark the beginning of an incredibly attractive trilogy. Following the decision, the trailer was released on Sept. 15, and an announcement has also been made stating that Flumpool’s “Yoru wa Nemureru kai?” will be used as the main theme. The chance to hear the new song before its actual release is certainly doing its part in building up the anticipation around the late-autumn release.

The film will be based on Gamon Sakurai’s Ajin: Demi-Human manga series, which is currently running in Good! Afternoon from Kodansha. The series has sold over 3.2 million copies, and will become a movie trilogy as well as a TV anime series. With a title as famous as Ajin, a huge upcoming trilogy project, and also renowned animation studio Polygon Pictures behind the animation, it’s no wonder why everyone is talking about Ajin right now.

Through the trailer, we can see a world inhabited by rare immortal demi-humans referred to as “Ajin.” After being fatally hit by a truck, main protagonist Kei Nagai discovers that he is the third demi-human in the country, and finds himself on a path of uncertainty. All the mysteries offered by the trailer make it really hard to wait until the release date. The digital imaging surpassing that of Knights of Sidonia is also worth paying close attention to.

Together with the trailer’s release, it was also announced that four-member rock band Flumpool will be in charge of the main theme. Although the band has experience providing music for anime-based films such as Osamu Tezuka’s MW and popular shojo manga Kimi ni Todoke, this will be the first time their music will be featured in an animated film.

In addition to the film, “Yoru wa Nemureru kai?” will also be used in the TV anime series. All four members of Flumpool are actually fans of the Ajin series, which makes the theme song even more intriguing.

As the first part of the trilogy, Ajin Part 1: Shodo will open in Toho Cinema Shinjuku, together with other theatres as well, from Nov. 27. The film will only be available for two weeks. The TV anime series will air from January 2016 on MBS, TBS, CBC, in addition to other networks. Plans are also being made to provide the series through Netflix to the rest of the world.
[Comment from Flumpool’s Ryota Yamamura on “Yoru wa Nemureru kai?”, the main theme of the film and TV anime series]
“All of us are really big fans of Ajin, and feel honoured to have the chance to sing its main theme. From the key phrase ‘you’ll know when you die,’ we knew that there is something very unique about the series, but we weren’t sure whether or not it was possible to capture that feeling in a song. We certainly had our share of seemingly endless sessions of trial and error.

“The protagonist’s hopelessness, attempts to escape an inevitable fate, faith in a world where nothing is trustworthy, dreams that take over reality… When you are constantly being hunted, what can you chase after? What will you ask for, and what will you fight for? We hope that our song can contribute to the efforts of Director Seshita and his incredible staff team, as they explore the thoughts and themes of Ajin.”
