A TV anime has been greenlit for Sekko Boys, an anime about an unusual idol unit comprised of well-known stone statues from the world of art. The idol unit shares its name with the title of the anime, the broadcast to which will premiere in January 2016. This anime about stone statue idols getting the green light is a surprising development that will surely attract heavy attention.
The Sekko Boys began their activities in February of this year. The series has gained notice for its eccentrically strange premise of rough sketches of stone statues becoming idols. The unit is comprised of four members: Saint George, Mars, Hermes, and Medici. A press conference style promotional video has been posted along with the anime being greenlit, which too opens up to a surreal world.
The TV anime will feature a completely original story. It will depict a story of growth for the Sekko Boys who aspire to be stars in the entertainment industry and their newcomer female manager. Being the world’s first anime about stone statues, it’s likely to be hotly followed from inside and outside the industry.
A wonderful team has been assembled for the main staff. Directing is Seiki Takuno of Yamada-kun and the Seven Witches fame, the series composer and writer is Michiko Yokote of Shirobako fame, and producing the anime is Liden Films, which also produced The Heroic Legend of Arslan.
For the theme song, in charge of lyrics is Bonjour Suzuki who created the opening theme to Yurikuma Arashi, and producing the composition and arrangement is Masada Moveman, a creator primarily active in the club scene. The song is sung by the Sekko Boys. Not knowing just what kind of singing voices these four stone statues will have makes this a song that’s impossible to predict. Cast information and other details on the anime will be posted to the official homepage in the coming days.
New idol products will soon be released beginning this fall. These include, among other items, a fake concert merchandise set including a new book of sketches, a tote bag, and rubber straps.
The TV anime Sekko Boys will premiere in January 2016.
