It seems Cygames, which astonished anime fans throughout the world with the overwhelmingly high quality of its fall 2014 anime Rage of Bahamut: Genesis, will be unleashing another new surprise on the world. On Aug. 31, Cygames announced production on a new TV anime titled Rage of Bahamut: Manaria Friends. This anime too is themed after the popular social game Rage of Bahamut. In a surprise development, the popular event within the world of Rage of Bahamut, “Manaria Maho Gakuin” (Mysteria Academy in the English version), is being adapted to anime. The broadcast will premiere in 2016.
As suggested by the title, the Mysteria Academy arc will be set at Mysteria Academy, a prestigious school that teaches magic. In the world of Rage of Bahamut humans, gods, and demons are at war with one another, but at the academy these three faction coexist together. At the center of the story are a daughter of royalty named Anne, Grea, a princess of the Dragon tribe, and Hanna, the student council president from the Elf tribe. The story will follow them as they resolve a variety of incidents.
At the same time the anime was announced, it was also announced that reprising their roles from the game will be Yoko Hikasa, voice of Anne, and Ayaka Fukuhara, voice of Grea. It seems these two will be just as lively in the anime. Rage of Bahamut: Genesis may have depicted the three tribes warring over the fate of the world, but it seems the focus will change quite considerably in this new anime.
The announcement this time just confirms that the anime has been greenlit, information is still scarce at this point. On the other hand, a teaser site and an official Twitter have both launched. News from hereon will be posted to both of these.
Another bit of news to highlight is that Cygames holds the copyright of the anime. Cygames gained attention for solely financing production of the previous anime, Rage of Bahamut: Genesis, and it seems the same will be true of Manaria Friends. Because of this, all eyes are on how the anime will unfold from hereon.
