The anime Lupin III was born from the original manga series by Monkey Punch. After the start of the TV series in 1971, it was developed in various forms, including movies, special shows, and OVAs.
Meanwhile, the first new TV series in 30 years is on the way. The anime, set in Italy, is being produced by Telecom Animation, with Kazuhide Tomonaga as the chief director, Yuji Ohno in charge of music, Yuichiro Yano as director, and Yuya Takahashi as writer - a talented staff of veterans and newcomers are participating. The new work is one to look forward to.
New information on the anime was revealed on Aug. 26. First is information on the broadcast, which will begin in October on Nippon TV and Yomiuri TV. It will premiere domestically in Japan late night on Oct. 1 on Nippon TV at 25:29. It has also been revealed that the anime will span 24 episodes total. The TV broadcast will run for roughly half a year. It seems we’ll have plenty of time to follow Lupin on his peculiar adventures.
Another bit of news concerns the music. For the new anime, composer Yuji Ohno, who has participated on the series for many years beginning with Lupin III in 1971, is newly recording “Theme from Lupin III.” The nostalgic theme will be revived this year with a new sound. The newly recorded version of the song can be heard in the newest PV for the anime posted on Aug. 26. The song will no doubt become irresistible to fans. Also, an original soundtrack containing the new theme song will be released on Oct. 21.
And for the story fans are curious about, a new adventure will unfold in Italy with familiar characters Lupin III, Daisuke Jigen, Goemon Ishikawa, Fujiko Mine, and Inspector Zenigata. The story will also include a freewheeling beauty named Rebecca Rossellini, Italy’s secret intelligence agency MI6, and more.
