Based on Masamune Shirow’s Ghost in the Shell series, the first key visual to the stage play Ghost in the Shell: Ghost is Alive has been released. The visual puts the focus on Motoko Kusanagi played by Kaede Aono.
In charge of the stage play is Shutaro Oku, a film director and stage director of the Persona and Blood C: The Last Mind stage plays. The script is being written by Junichi Fujisaku who was the scriptwriter on Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex and supervisor on Ghost in the Shell: Arise. It seems Oku and Fujisaku will bring audiences an “origin story” that takes place the night before the formation of Public Security Section 9. On top of the play making use of 3D visuals, it has been confirmed that the show won’t be coming to DVD or online streaming.
Performances of Ghost in the Shell: Ghost is Alive will be held from Nov. 5–15 at the Tokyo Metropolitan Theatre Playhouse. The earliest pre-order period for tickets began on Aug. 25 on e+, after which they will become available at ticket machines throughout Japan.
