What kind of animated films do you like? Disney anime? Or maybe Pixar? Or how about Ghibli? Animated films are created all over the world by many different studios. Frankly, it can be said that the majority of kids today and even many adults enjoy animated films.

Film production group CineFix recently posted to YouTube the video “Top 10 Most Beautiful Animated Movies of All Time.” In it, they include many masterpieces, and chosen for the No. 1 spot was none other than director Makoto Shinkai’s The Garden of Words!

The Garden of Words was released in Japan in May 2013. The film is director Makoto Shinkai’s sixth feature-length animation. Director Shinkai is also known for such works as 5 Centimeters Per Second and Voices of a Distant Star, and many of his works are themed after adolescent boys and girls in love. In The Garden of Words, director Shinkai depicts “the loneliness that precedes love.” With its intricately detailed visuals, the film invites empathy from viewers.
Even in Japan, after the film released there seemed to be many people who were captivated by its beauty who said things like, “The visuals of rain [in the film] are so beautiful, I even like rain now,” and, “The visuals, music, story - everything was beautiful.” This must be why it was chosen this time for the No. 1 spot. With the “most beautiful anime” now chosen, if you haven’t seen it yet why not take this opportunity to do so?
