[Video] This is How “Star Wars” Rice Paddy Art is Made! Sentosu Gets in on the Rice-Planting Action Too!

The “rice paddy art” of Inakadate in Aomori Prefecture uses rice paddies as canvases on which gigantic pictures are drawn by planting rice of varying colors. Recently announced on Gadget Tsushin, Star Wars rice paddy art was created this year that shows gigantic versions of C-3PO, R2-D2, and new character BB-8.

In June, Gadget Tsushin went to the spot where the rice paddy art was being created to get the details. Fighting game commentator Sentosu also took up the challenge of planting rice!

There are surely plenty of people who wonder after seeing this total perfection of rice paddy art, “How was it made?!” I too saw the art last year and couldn’t even imagine how it was planted.

When we got to the rice field, there was a rough outline of the letters and picture. It’s hard to tell at a distance, but…

...up close you can see the words “Star Wars.”

Everyone planted rice together according to the rough outline.

This is what it looks like from above!

The area that Sentosu helped plant is BB-8’s eye surrounded in the picture by a red circle. For those who want to go see rice paddy art for themselves, make sure to keep Inakadate in mind.

A YouTube video has also already been posted showing how the rice paddy art was made! There’s also an interview with Stormtroopers, so if you’re a Star Wars fan don’t miss it.
