The THP-01 is the first product by Toon Workshop, a new lifestyle brand by Good Smile Company and Mr. Hahn from Linkin Park, that revitalizes the concept of “Geek Japan.” These unprecedented transforming headphones have gone on sale, and a conference and launch party to celebrate their release was held in Tokyo on July 16.
These never-before-seen THP-01 transforming headphones are made up of over 256 precision parts. The headphones can transform with superior accuracy, being able to completely fold up into a square, portable form with an appealing transformation mechanism. The ear pads are made up of a mesh of high quality synthetic leather. Matching of low-resistance urethane foam regulates interior pressure and offers the highest quality sensation. The creative director of the project is the genius of the geek world, Mechikuro (SF/MHz), and the mechanism, acoustical design, and manufacture is by a long-standing Japanese audio maker. Furthermore, a tuning session was held at a Los Angeles studio under Mr. Hahn’s direction, establishing a unique sound style brimming with quality.
At the conference, the Japanese creative group Rhizomatiks produced “Toon Workshop PV,” an explanatory video was on display along with a collaborative model standing in for Tokyo by the new generation brand Facetasm, as was a custom model by the global sensation Die Antwoord member Ninja, who recently appeared in the film Chappie. In addition, a variety of collaborative headphone demonstrations and listening events were carried out.
At the after party following the conclusion of the conference, splendid performances were given by DJ Alvin Risk of OWSLA, the popular producer kz (livetune), and of course the brand’s general producer, Mr. Hahn.
