An art exhibit for Karakara-kemuri’s hugely popular manga Laughing Under the Clouds will be coming to Ikebukuro, Tokyo. The exhibit will be held for six days from Aug. 26–31 with open hours being 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. It will be held in Exhibit Hall A on the fourth floor of Ikebukuro Sunshine City World Import Mart. Because this hugely popular series was adapted into an anime in 2014 and a stage play in February of this year, it will likely gather massive attention from fans.
Laughing Under the Clouds is set in Biwako, Shiga Prefecture. In light of an increase in crime from the disorder that ensued during the Meiji Restoration, an inescapable prison was created by the government inside a giant tree in the middle of Lake Biwa for housing felons. The story depicts the adventures of the three Kumo brothers who are contracted to transport felons to the prison.
The first chance to get advance tickets will be on June 14 at the “Anime Laughing Under the Clouds Fan Event” to be held at Toyosu Pit. These special tickets, which cost 3,300 yen (tax included), will come as sets with a limited edition item. On the tickets is an illustration of the three Kumo brothers and Shirasu, and even the envelope they come in has been given a gold foil treatment. Included with tickets is a gorgeous line art wall scroll of artwork drawn just for the currently on sale Karakara: Karakara-kemuri Artworks. Fans will definitely want to check it out.
General ticket sales will begin on June 25 at Animate, Gamers, and Ticket Pia. Regular tickets will cost 1,000 yen if purchased prior to the event and 1,300 yen if purchased at the door. Ticket sets that come with a limited edition item will cost 3,000 yen if purchased prior and 3,300 yen if purchased at the door. Two kinds of limited edition hanging scrolls will be prepared for the tickets, and which one is included differs by retailer. Those who purchase theirs at Animate or Gamers will get a set that includes the same wall scroll design that is included with special tickets. Those who purchase from Ticket Pia will get a wall scroll featuring the front cover artwork of the first volume of Laughing Under the Clouds: Side Story.
Collaboration goods with popular character Kirimi-chan who is themed after a slice of fish will also be available for purchase at the same fan event where advance tickets will also be available. This will likely result in a huge fan turnout.
