The Harajuku culture festival “Harajuku Kawaii!! Week 2015” (HaraKawa) was held throughout Harajuku for two days, May 9 and 10. Themed after “Harajuku’s Golden Week isn’t over,” the event was held in Quest Hall, Laforet Museum, and Astro Hall, and various events took place at shops around Harajuku. The two-day event recorded attendance of 29,700.
On both days, a line formed in front of Laforet Harajuku of attendees seeking the original tote bag required to enter each venue. In Astro Hall, things developed at a non-stop pace as popular artists overflowing with uniqueness performed live. Attendees were so fascinated by the excitement that admittance had to be restricted for a short time. A diverse range of booths, mini stage performances, and talk shows developed in the Laforet Museum. With special meet-ups and more, there was plenty for fans to take part in.
In the main event hall, Quest Hall, the curtain was raised on the kids stage event “Harajuku Kawaii!! Kids.” On the “Harajuku Kawaii!!” stage were fashion shows by popular brands and fashion magazines, talk shows, live performances, and more. Cheers from fans arose when models who appear in magazines took the stage, and the laughter was neverending at live comedy shows with Trendy Angel and 8.6-byo Bazooka. In addition, artists Akira and Tempura Kidz put on unique concerts that had the audience gushing with excitement.
The second day was a bit different than the first, and featured a special stage performance by Kasico, the creator of the event’s visual, a cosplay stage event put on by ACOS, and more. Natsume Mito who debuted in April also performed her first special live show in Harajuku, and the full lineup of performers appeared for the grand finale.
Aside from event halls, HaraKawa made full use of Harajuku, with over 100 shops participating in the large campaign “BachiColle,” models doing in-store visits, snap photography, and other events all over.
Even on the second day, visitors carrying the official HaraKawa tote bag overflowed on the streets of Harajuku, and it was indeed an event that embodied the feeling of Golden Week not being over in Harajuku.
