Tokyo Ghoul stage play unveils main visual featuring Yuki Ogoe as Ken Kaneki

The main visual has been released for the stage version of Tokyo Ghoul which has become such a hot topic ever since its announcement. In the stage version, the role of Ken Kaneki will be played by Yuki Ogoe, a 20-year-old young actor who is very much in the spotlight right now. The main visual takes the form of a large image of Ogoe as Kaneki, and its defining feature is his creepy appearance.

The original Tokyo Ghoul manga written by Sui Ishida was published in Weekly Young Jump (Shueisha) from 2011 to September 2014. Its sequel, Tokyo Ghoul:re has been running since October 2014. The collected tankobon volumes have sold over 12 million copies and the TV anime adaptation was broadcast over two seasons. It’s a very popular franchise.

Yuki Ogoe who will play Ken Kaneki in the stage play attracted a lot of attention for his performance as Ryoma Echizen in the Prince of Tennis Musical 2nd Season, from which he graduated in 2014. His first role after graduating Prince of Tennis was the lead role of Shion in Psychedelic Pain: A Rock Opera which he played with passion widening his range as an actor.

The show will be directed by Isamu Kayano who has been involved with several different genres of stage projects including Pacchigi!, Gekidan Exile Hanagumi x Kazegumi’s Rokudenashi Blues and AKB49 Renai Kinshi Jourei among others. Kayano x Ogoe - a stage combination that’s sure to attract attention. Also playwright Chuji Mikasano has been appointed to write the script. Following the TV anime will certainly be a challenge.

As for the remainder of the cast, Aya Tabata who has had a long career including having played the roles of Young Cosette in Les Misérables and the title character in Annie, will play Toka Kirishima. Shogo Suzuki, whose performance as Chikage Kazama in the Hakuoki musical is still fresh in our minds, will play Nishiki Nishio. Shuuto Miyazaki, whose enthusiastic performance as Hayato Shinkai in the stage version of Yowamushi Pedal proved so popular, will play Hideyoshi Nagachika. Yuri Hamada, who is mainly a gravure model, will play Rize Kamishiro. Mitsu Murata, whose captivating performance as Akira Midousuji in the stage version of Yowamushi Pedal hit just the right note, will play Uta. Tomokazu Yoshida, who gave a good performance as Katakura Kojuro in the stage version of Sengoku Basara will play Renji Yomo. Yuki Kimisawa ( Prince of Tennis Musical, Live Spectacle Naruto, etc.) and Jiyu Arima, whose refined performance style shines on stage, are also among the talented members of cast. Other character visuals will be released in due course.
