Collaboration Illustrations Between Hiromu Arakawa’s ‘Seven Deadly Sins’ & Nakaba Suzuki’s ‘The Heroic Legend of Arslan’ Created for Nichigo Anime

Anime fans in Japan are well acquainted with the 5:00 p.m. timeslot on Sundays on MBS and TBS when popular anime are broadcast. Many masterpieces have broadcast during this timeslot including Fullmetal Alchemist and Mobile Suit Gundam 00.

The anime adaptation of Nakaba Suzuki’s popular manga The Seven Deadly Sins was broadcast during this timeslot from October 2014 to this month. The story depicts the activities of the “Seven Deadly Sins,” a legendary group of knights from the Liones Kingdom.

The broadcast reached its finale on March 29 with the 24th episode, “The Heroes.” A surprise project also came at the end of the greatly satisfying finale. A surprising big shot participated in creating the end card illustration of the episode: Hiromu Arakawa, creator of such popular series as Fullmetal Alchemist. The scene depicts main character Meliodas and Hendrickson, who antagonizes him until the very end. A highlight of the artwork is the vigorous Meliodas in Arakawa’s style.

In actuality, this collaboration illustration is for “Nichigo” (a popular way to refer to the 5:00 p.m. timeslot on Sundays). The next Nichigo on April 5 will see the start of the broadcast for the anime The Heroic Legend of Arslan adapted from the original manga by Arakawa. During this broadcast, The Heroic Legend of Arslan will harken back to the finale of The Seven Deadly Sins, which will be tied to this new episode. And the end card for the April 5 broadcast of Arslan will feature an illustration of Arslan drawn by Nakaba Suzuki, author of The Seven Deadly Sins. It seems fans won’t want to miss out on this homage in the form of an end card that will be first viewable during the TV broadcast.

The talked-about manga adaptation of The Heroic Legend of Arslan by popular author Hiromu Arakawa is based on a former popular novel by Yoshiki Tanaka. This manga is now getting an anime adaptation. The series is an epic fantasy about the crown prince Arslan and his friends as they try to reclaim their kingdom which was taken over by neighboring kingdom Lusitania.
