‘Fullmetal Alchemist’ Coming to Niconico; Live Broadcast and VOD Streaming to Start

The anime series Fullmetal Alchemist is coming to Niconico all at once. From March 22–31, all episodes of the TV series that ran for four years from 2003 as well as Fullmetal Alchemist the Movie: Conqueror of Shamballa will be available for streaming.

VOD streaming of the series will also begin in April. The entirety of the series will be available to enjoy including the second anime series from 2009, Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood, and Fullmetal Alchemist: The Sacred Star of Milos. This will be the first time the Fullmetal Alchemist series will be available to stream on Niconico.

Fullmetal Alchemist is based on the original manga by Hiromu Arakawa serialized in Monthly Shonen Gangan (published by Square Enix). The story tells of an adventure between Edward, who loses part of his body in a failed attempt at the most taboo alchemical transmutation, and his brother Alphonse, who loses his body entirely in the same accident, as they search for the Philosopher’s Stone to restore their bodies. The series was adapted into a TV anime in 2003, and in 2005 the original film Fullmetal Alchemist the Movie: Conqueror of Shamballa was released. Then in 2009 a reboot of the series was produced that faithfully followed the original manga titled Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood, and this is extremely popular even today.

The series’ popularity notwithstanding, it’s quite surprising that it hadn’t before been streamed on Niconico. It’s safe to say that this has been long awaited by fans.

Streaming will begin on Nico Nico Live for episodes 1-13 of Fullmetal Alchemist on March 22. This will be continued by episodes 14-25 on the 23rd, 26-40 on the 29th, 41-51 on the 30th, and Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood on the 31st. VOD streaming will begin on April 3 for Fullmetal Alchemist and Fullmetal Alchemist the Movie: Conqueror of Shamballa. This will be followed by Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood and Fullmetal Alchemist: The Sacred Star of Milos on April 10.
