Alpacasso: The Origin, a movie based on the popular plushie series Alpacasso, was released on April 1 at Shibuya Otaku Theater, with a special advance screening taking place before the release. A large number of fans lined up at the theater with Alpacasso plushies in their arms.
The Alpacasso series of plushies has gained fans from all over the world. Starting off as a prize found in Japanese game centers, these toys are now sold globally by Tokyo Otaku Mode. The movie, which is based on these popular plushies and took two years to produce, is a sci-fi film revolving around a battle between a giant camel beast and a rainbow Alpacasso.
A Tokyo Otaku Mode team member and movie production staff member watched over the advance screening and commented, “It’s been a good start. The reaction by the staff was great too, and ideas for a sequel have already come up.” The staff member also mentioned, “We’d love to have fans come and watch what happens in the battle between the Alpacasso and the camel.”
[Storyline]
A camel found in the desert of Africa is captured and brought to a zoo in Japan. Enraged by its sudden lack of freedom, the animal sucks up sunlight and evolves into a 100-meter giant camel. With the monster running loose in Tokyo hunting for revenge on its captors, elite scientists from all over Japan gather to take down the beast.
Out of this group, a brilliant scientist named Tetsuo Shigeta manages to take his 10-centimeter-tall Alpacasso plushie and transform it into 10 times its original size. The enlarged Alpacasso is also found to have the ability to speak!
The scientists, who have now found a way to defeat the giant camel, also succeed in transforming a 10-meter, custom-made Alpacasso into a 100-meter Rainbow Alpacasso. With this new weapon in hand, they enter the battle.
