The limited 2-week screening period for Knights of Sidonia the Movie will begin on March 6. The film is a talked-about full-length adaptation of Tsutomu Nihei’s sci-fi manga by Polygon Pictures, a studio at the forefront of Japanese digital anime.

Featuring new cuts and angles from the TV series as well as newly created sound effects, the film is a re-edited version of the show with a whopping runtime of 2 hours, 13 minutes. The series is also drawing attention for the new anime Knights of Sidonia: Battle for Planet Nine to begin airing in April.

Coming ahead of the film, on Feb. 21 a special event was held at Shinjuku Wald 9 in Tokyo. Unveiled at the event was the original motorcycle Honda NM4-02 Benisuzume Version, the only one in the world. The motorcycle was created by Honda in collaboration with Knights of Sidonia. Honda also collaborated with the series in 2014 on the motorcycle Honda NM4-02 Tsugumori Version, which created a huge sensation. Part 2 was now carried out in response to the popularity of the previous motorcycle, and chosen for the theme this time is the strongest villain to threaten Sidonia and stand in the way of the main characters, Benisuzume.

Throngs of fans gathered at Shinjuku Wald 9, and loud cheers and applause sprang up during the unveiling. The event was so popular, there was a constant stream of camera flashes. Along with the motorcycle, cosplayers who looked like they could have jumped straight out of the series’ world were also onstage, adding more flair to the event. At the event were main character Nagate Tanikaze, heroine Shizuka Hoshijiro, and, as a special guest, a new character to appear in Knights of Sidonia: Battle for Planet Nine, Tsumugi Shiraui.

The design of the Honda NM4-02 Benisuzume Version was supervised by series creator Tsutomu Nihei based on a design by Maticlog. It can be said that its presence feels just like it was created in the world of Knights of Sidonia. It’s also one of a kind. The motorcycle will be on display in the lobby of Shinjuku Wald 9 until mid-March. Enjoy it along with the movie when you go to see it.
