Many unique theatrical anime are set to be released this year, and now another remarkably unique work has been announced. That work is Little Witch Academia Maho Shikake Parade directed by Yoh Yoshinari with animation production by Trigger. Up till now, the production had been progressing on the project Little Witch Academia 2 before this name was changed to Little Witch Academia Maho Shikake Parade. The anime takes place at a magic academy and follows girls aiming to become witches and the various adventures they find themselves in.

This film is the first full-length anime by anime studio Trigger, a new studio founded in 2011. Director Yoh Yoshinari is an extraordinary animator known far and wide. This will be his second time working on the series following Little Witch Academia and his first theatrical anime. Trigger is a studio gathering immense support from anime fans for their works including Kill la Kill. Because this upcoming film is an original work, there is no doubt it will be highly anticipated by fans.

The starting point for Little Witch Academia Maho Shikake Parade is Little Witch Academia produced for 2013’s Young Animator Training Project “Anime Mirai.” The roughly 20-minute work was part of a project for training Japan’s young animators. Normally, the project culminates in the production and showing of a short anime.

By the way, Trigger is aiming to make this sequel loaded with entertainment. Funding for the sequel began in July 2013 on the American crowdfunding site, Kickstarter. Supporters poured in and the work raised four times its goal, ending at $625,518 (roughly 74 million yen).

It seems that the Kickstarter funding was originally to produce a sequel OVA, but because of the large support, the plan has expanded into a surprise feature-length animation project. According to Trigger, the film will feature, of course, well known characters as well as new ones. They also said that the story and world will have a bigger scale.

The official site of the film opened on Feb. 16. A teaser visual drawn just for the occasion has also been released. Keep it here for more news to come including when this year the film will be released.
