One by one, the Japan Anima(tor) Expo showcases creators’ experimental short animation projects, and on Feb. 6, 2015, it seems that it will deliver to the world yet another shocking new piece. On the night of Feb. 2, it was announced on Niconico Live that the 12th installment for the “Japan Anima(tor) Expo -Doutoresu-” is titled Evangelion: Another Impact (Confidential). The trailer is now available to the public, and the original story will be offered from Feb. 6.
We know that the work is a spin-off of the Evangelion series from several pieces of information, including the title containing the word “evangelion,” an already-published visual along with the storyline, and the rights being attributed to Khara. For Eva fans, this new animation short just can’t be missed.
Also noted is the staff team for this project. An Evangelion tribute piece called Until You Come to Me, directed by Tadashi Hiramatsu, was previously published in December 2014 through the Japan Anima(tor) Expo. It was produced by the staff and Studio Khara, who were involved with the film Evangelion: 3.0 You Can (Not) Redo.
However, in regards to Evangelion: Another Impact (Confidential), an entirely different team of members will take on Evangelion. Not only that, but they are all very big figures. What kind of work will they show us?
The head of the project is Shinji Aramaki, who will also act as the film supervisor, director, mechanic designer, and so on. Some of his currently published works are Appleseed Alpha, Captain Harlock, and Starship Troopers Invasion - all of which have captured interest not only in Japan but worldwide due to their photorealistic CG. The CG director for the Evangelion spinoff, Masaru Matsumoto, also served as the CG director for Appleseed Alpha. People are highly anticipating a piece that will resemble a live-action film and demonstrates what only CG can offer.
In addition, another key aspect to the production is likely to be the “Another Eva” design managed by Atsushi Takeuchi. Takeuchi is well known for participating in numerous works including the Patlabor series, and for directing the episode “Lair of Grievous” in Star Wars: The Clone Wars.
Sola Digital Arts, where director Shinji Aramaki serves as CCO, will join the production in addition to Steve N’ Steven. Steve N’ Steven is a business aiming to become a company that deals with animation, live action, advertisements, and other types of film genres. Steve N’ Steven aims to be a business spread across various film genres including animation, live action, and advertisements. Perhaps it can be said that this latest endeavor too will bring them closer to that goal.
Director Shinji Aramaki, CG Director Masaru Matsumoto, and even the producer for Steve N’ Steven, Tomohiko Ishii, will appear on Niconico’s Feb. 9 live broadcast at noon, covering the 12th “Japan Anima(tor) Expo -Doutoresu-.” Just what is Evangelion: Another Impact (Confidential)? For certain, they will reveal how exactly this project came about.
