‘Kamisama Kiss: The Musical’ Performances Begin in March - Visual of Ren Yagami as Tomoe Also Releases

Julietta Suzuki’s popular manga Kamisama Kiss (serialized in Hakusensha’s Hana to Yume), which has 4 million copies in print, is getting its first stage musical adaptation. Kamisama Kiss: The Musical will run from March 21-29, 2015 at the Tokyo Metropolitan Theatre.

Dressed as the character Tomoe is Ren Yagami who debuted as Seiichi Yukimura in the musical for The Prince of Tennis. Yagami also performed as Chosokabe Motochika in the Sengoku Basara 3 stage play in 2014 and as Mondo Owada in the play Danganronpa: The Stage. Now the first visual of him has Tomoe has been released. A point of interest will be how Yagami will play this popular character.

Nanami Momozono is being played by Saki Terashima who had her movie debut in director Obayashi’s Riyu. Since then Terashima has become a young actress to pay attention to who has starred in many movies and TV dramas. She has performed in stage plays since 2007’s Seishun Dendekedekedeke, but this will be her first musical.

Playing the role of Kurama is Keisuke Minami. Minami played main character Yu Narukami in the 2014 stage play Persona 4: The Ultimate in Mayonaka Arena. Playing Mizuki is Shota Takasaki whose performance background includes the Senbonzakura musical and Hakuoki and Ogre Slayer stage plays.

Following the release of these cast visuals of Tomoe, visuals of Kurama and Mizuki will release on the official site on Jan. 12 and 19, respectively.

The story begins at a dire time for Nanami Momozono - her gambler father has run out on her and she was kicked out of her house by bill collectors. She saves a gentleman named Mikage who is being chased by a dog. They both open up to each other afterward and when Nanami speaks of her plight Mikage gives her his house before abruptly leaving. Half in disbelief, she heads to the location given to her to find a rundown shrine at which lives familiars Tomoe, Onikiri, and Kotetsu. Mikage is the land god of the shrine and along with giving Nanami the shrine as her home he also transferred his land god responsibilities to her, which Mikage abandoned for over 20 years. From here begins a story of growth for Nanami as a land god through living together with Tomoe and the others and carrying out her duties with the help of Tomoe.

Appointed as director and writer of the musical is Takehiko Hata, who has performed said roles on many movies, dramas, and stage plays including the Unfair series (KTV) and Dandarin Rodo Kijun Kantoku Kansa-kan (NTV).

A new season of the anime will also begin broadcasting this month. Fans are looking forward to this second season which continues from the first broadcast that ran from October to December 2012. An anime and now a musical - we can’t wait to see what Kamisama Kiss develops into next.
