Mamoru Hosoda’s New Film “Bakemono no Ko” Announced to Premiere in July 2015

Director Mamoru Hosoda‘s newest piece, Bakemono no Ko

It has been revealed that Bakemono no Ko, the latest work in three years by director Mamoru Hosoda, whose name you might know from The Girl Who Leapt Through Time and Wolf Children, will premiere July 11, 2015 Japan-wide.

Bakemono no Ko will be an adventure movie with a boy, Kyuta, and a monster called Kumatetsu as its protagonists, and to which Hosoda wrote both the original work and the script.

A lonely boy and a beast meet and together embark on a dazzling adventure!

The story takes place in two worlds that were never supposed to cross, Shibuya in the human world and Jutengai in the beast world.

A solitary boy wanders into Jutengai, and in the beast world he meets Kumatetsu, a monster suffering from the same loneliness. Kumatetsu takes him as his apprentice, and so the story starts.

In his previous work that grossed more than 4 billion yen, Wolf Children, Director Hosoda depicted rich in emotion the life choices of the characters through the formation of a human-non human family.

In his upcoming movie as well, Hosoda aims to depict the relationship between characters who belong to different species through an adventurous story. “To young people, I hope to give as much comfort to the pressing problem of their period, ‘What am I?,’ as I possibly can, and to adults, I hope to give a sense of fulfillment and happiness through the unique bond the boy and the beast share,” Hosoda enthusiastically commented on the production.
