“Anno Hideaki’s World” and “Evangelion Exhibit” Are Being Held Concurrently in Hideaki Anno’s Hometown of Ube 0

The special exhibits “Anno Hideaki’s World” and “Evangelion Exhibit” are being held concurrently in Hideaki Anno’s hometown of Ube, Yamaguchi Prefecture until Jan. 12, 2015. This is the perfect opportunity to experience the attraction of Evangelion, which has left a huge influence on the history of Japanese anime, and Hideaki Anno who created it. The exhibits are being held at the Lake Tokiwa Hall in Ube. The “Evangelion Exhibit” is ticketed, and “Anno Hideaki’s World” costs 200 yen to enter, but there are free screenings of a great number of popular works.

“Anno Hideaki’s World” introduces all in one place the history and works of Hideaki Anno, a prolific director and animator. Following from last year, this is the second holding of the exhibit. On display is a vast arrangement from original animation drawings and storyboards, to oil paintings from when he was in middle school, and even doujinshi. The works screened at the exhibit focus on those created in his amateur days, which were previously screened at a special event at the 27th Tokyo International Film Festival.

The concurrently running “Evangelion Exhibit” is also not to be missed. This event, which began in Tokyo in August 2013, has toured all around Japan and is being supervised by the father of the series, Anno, and production company Khara. Because of this, a tremendous amount of over 1,000 pieces of artwork have been collected. Also on display are cel drawings from the TV series and reprinted artwork from the comic version by Yoshiyuki Sadamoto, all of which collectively introduce the history of the series, from inception to the present. With rough drawings, storyboards and layouts from the Rebuild of Evangelion series on display as well, you can grasp the process that went into creating the impressive visuals. This is an exhibit long awaited by fans that they can enjoy before the release of the fourth and concluding part to Rebuild of Evangelion, Evangelion 4.0 Final.
